ASSIS

The Association of Senior Staff in Independent Schools (ASSIS)

AHISA (Vic) is a major constituent body of the Centre for Strategic Education (CSE) and CSE serves to support the development of leadership capacity in Independent schools through thought leadership, professional learning, publications and consultancy.

For many years, there has been a very strong partnership between ASSIS and CSE. While ASSIS remains a separate body, it draws upon CSE as its program co-ordinator and secretariat for the Association.

ASSIS aims to bring together senior staff in Independent schools to:

  • Provide stimulating, challenging and contemporary professional learning opportunities through guest speakers and topical seminars

  • Share ideas and successful practice in schools through Discussion Forums;

  • Build a collegial network of support amongst colleagues who are in similar positions across the Independent sector.

Most notably, ASSIS continues to assist in building leadership capacity within its membership contributing to developing leadership within their schools.

ASSIS meetings are held four times a year and are predominately hosted at schools in the Melbourne metropolitan region. The meetings take the form of a guest speaker and dinner and/or a discussion forum.

Topics being planned for next year include:

  • professional learning models in practice in schools,

  • alternative school structures to best meet the learning needs of students,

  • Indigenous education and cultural competency of schools, and

  • alternative pathways and credentialing beyond just ATAR to higher education.

ASSIS membership is open to members of Senior Leadership teams only.
